CPT is a trauma program that explores how your thoughts and beliefs are changed when you experience traumatic events. Often times these changes happen below the surface and CPT offers a chance to address the obvious impacts of trauma, as well as these more hidden changes that tend to keep people stuck… Stuck in self blame, stuck in bad habits, stuck in negative emotions, stuck in fear of trusting other people or maybe of really trusting ourselves…

By deliberately addressing how these beliefs have changed, you’ll start to see how these beliefs impact your thoughts and how those thoughts have been impacting your emotions. Your beliefs about safety, trust, power and control, esteem of yourself or others, as well as emotional or physical intimacy with yourself or others has likely changed in a big way given what you’ve gone through.

CPT offers you a chance to be that prism and refract what has happened to you from who you are truly are, a chance to identify which beliefs you don’t want to carry with you anymore, and offers skill building techniques throughout the program for how to let go of those beliefs that have been holding you back.

Why CPT when there are so many other trauma programs out there with great results?

One major advantage of CPT is how it uses a cognitive model for healing. This is delivered through psychoeducation and progressive skill building, which allows you to feel more empowered each week. The things you learn about trauma and yourself will be things you take into your life during the program but into the rest of your life afterwards too, regardless of the setting or scenario.

You will forever have the knowledge and skills that you build in CPT and that means that you’ll be that much more empowered to tackle any challenging, stressful, or traumatic situation moving forward. By pairing this program with somatic and mindfulness techniques, not only will you learn the intellectual side of what to look out for but you’ll learn how to stay grounded in your body during the program and in the future.

The first few sessions of CPT focus most on psychoeducation, the next section focuses on skill building and dismantling limiting beliefs, and the last section returns to themes already explored including safety, trust, power and control, esteem of self and others, and emotional + physical intimacy.

It is strongly advised prior to starting CPT that trust is established with your therapist and that you are ready to dive into your trauma history.
